Kashiff Khan Insights on Personal Style
Personal style is something that takes time to develop and should be a reflection of who you are as a person, what you value, and everything you love. You won’t be able to develop your own particular style overnight. However, there are methods you can employ to discover more about the style that works for you.
There are specific steps you can take to zero in on your particular style, no matter where you are on your journey to mastering it. So, if you’re looking to figure out how to define your own personal style, keep reading for my two cents on how to get started.
- Put a Label on It
Take a second pass at your inspiration photos, look beyond the names, and focus on the outfits. Choose a few words to describe the feel of your style. Are they traditional, contemporary, eclectic, bohemian, or fashion-forward? Choose a few terms that are authentic to your style and write them down for future reference; they will help you define and clarify your look.
- Choose a signature piece
Audrey Hepburn had her cropped pants and ballet flats, Jackie O. had her oversize sunglasses, and Edie Sedgwick had her statement earrings and mod minis. Every fashionista has at least one distinctive item that has become a part of her personal style. Yours could be as simple as a piece of personalised jewellery or as unique as a leopard coat.
- Take note of repeats
Do you have a lot of striped tees or ankle boots in your closet? There is a reason you have so many of a certain thing in your closet. You buy these things over and over because they make you happy and comfortable. They are, in a sense, your stylish sweet spot. Embrace these repeat offenders as long as the piece is flattering and fits your current style.
- Play to your strengths
Is there anything that folks say they like about you? Wearing pieces that play off your best style strengths will always seem stylish, no matter what is now trending, whether it’s your amazing footwear game or your ability to style gowns like no one else. Learn more about the outfits that successful people wear to feel powerful.
- Know thyself
Trust your gut and put on what makes you feel the most beautiful version of yourself. Wearing the season’s most out-there trend pieces will look strange if you have a more conventional style. You probably already have a winning sense of style, so accept it, refine it, and don’t try to change it.
